Well, guys. This is it. Two weekends ago, I decided on my Dallas apartment and really had to face the fact that I’m starting something new. Moving to a new city and the beginning of building my career is super exciting, but I’m going to miss the only city I’ve lived in here in Texas. I’m also obviously going to miss my boyfriend and my family. My dad already told me my mom is getting sad even before I’ve left Austin. And Jane. I’ll miss seeing her furry little kit cat face on the daily. New beginnings are scary, guys. Even if that new beginning comes with a well-paying full-time job in a great career field. At least I have a few friends in or around the DFW area where I’ll be moving to. But I told myself that for the next few weeks I’m still a resident of Austin, I’m going to make some more memories. Of course I’m going to drive back and visit (pro of being only three hours away from the good ol’ capital), especially due to the fact that important people are still in Austin. Being honest, I’m very much a creature of habit but I enjoy trying new things sometimes too so a good balance of old and new would be fantastic for the remaining time I have here. Some things I’ve done since graduation… Grab drinks (and eats) at Irene’s Irene’s is famous for its Instagram-friendly wall and neon sign outside as well as their avocado toast. I love myself some avo-toast, but I actually didn’t get that. My food wasn’t all that pretty to be honest so I didn’t take a picture. I also didn’t take a picture of my drink (some kind of berry sangria), which was actually nice looking. However, I got what I was aiming for that day: a picture in front of the neon sign outside! Worth it. Chill out at Zilker Park for Blues on the Greens This is definitely one of those classic Austin-y things to do during the summer. You’d think that after living here for so long, I’d have been to this during the summer before. Well, you’re wrong in guessing that because this was my first time sweating it out at Blues. I’ve thought about going, almost gone, skipped out on going to Blues numerous times, but this time I had to go. There’s no way I’m going to be able to come back to do this while I’m working in Dallas since the event is in the middle of the week. Was it worth it? In a sense, I think it was! The fun part is relaxing with friends and enjoying the presence of so many dogs. You’re probably not going to be able to hear the band playing very well and it is hot outside obviously. It’s crowded and crazy trying to get there. Parking is annoying. But for the friendship and memories, it’s worth it to go at least once with your pals. We parked about half an hour by foot away from Zilker, which meant that we walked for a total of an hour to just get to the park. That’s good exercise. Went to Juiceland with Avi He’s never been there before and was thinking about trying it out. There was no way I’d say no to Juiceland! I love this place despite the price tag that comes with their drinks. We both also signed up for their rewards program. It’s a good deal when they send you texts telling you there’s a buy one get one free deal going on, so do it. Plus, this isn’t a Texas-wide company so you gotta get it in ATX. Ordered pad thai from Thai Kitchen We LOVE Thai Kitchen. That place has some good food for a good price, and we haven’t found a single place in Austin with the same delicious flavor for that amount of food and the price. Unfortunately, Thai Kitchen has some pretty bad inspection results so we stopped going for quite a while. Also unfortunately, all the Thai places besides TK has “meh” food in comparison. So, after a good three to four month absence, we ordered from there again. Avi thought it was hilarious when I messaged him one day asking if we could just risk it and get Thai Kitchen for dinner, but look at that… We didn’t regret it. Or at least I didn’t regret it. Tried Velvet Taco at The Domain The food was not bad. The food was okay. The food was pricey. I’d honestly much rather get tacos from the food trucks you can find around Austin that give you some mad good tacos at a third of the price. The Domain is somewhere I’ve always gone to for shopping excursions once I could fully make decisions on my own because Lakeline Mall is not the cool place to be, kids. The restaurant-filled part of it wasn’t as booming and busy until relatively recently though, but there are some pretty good places open there now. Outside of Velvet Taco, there are some good sushi places, fancy-ish Italian restaurants, and quirky looking franchises like Velvet Taco to visit. I’d say it’s not a bad place to go for brunch (The Domain… not Velvet Taco) and there’s probably a place to fit anyone’s taste around the area. I still stand by my opinion that there are better places to get tacos though. This isn’t everything I’ve done in Austin since graduation, but these are some of the things I want to document and remember once I leave for Dallas. That’s coming up… very soon. It freaks me out to think about it, but life goes on! Dallas is going to be super different so I’m expecting some shock in the beginning, but hey it’ll become my home eventually. Can’t wait for the new experiences I’ll have in Dallas though! Check in a few weeks for thaaaaat… and also check back for some other cute experiences in Austin soon-ish. Hopefully. Let’s see if I keep that promise up.
